Travel Blog #13 – Pronto Denim, Bangkok.
Nov 8, 2013

After the Pronto Denim Carnival, I decided to stay on a few more days to check out the local Thai denim scene. This article won’t be about the gems I found, but it will be about a place where I’d dare say most denim enthusiasts in Thailand start their journey.

A giant of a retailer in Asia that draws a crowd like no other. It is a denim mecca of sorts. Introducing the Pronto Denim chain. Started by the Sachdev family, the Pronto brand has grown from a single store to 8 across Thailand.

They stock an absolute multitude of brands. I’ll attempt to name them all from memory: Nudie Jeans, Cheap Monday, April 77, The Flat Head, Momotaro, Japan Blue Jeans, Pure Blue Japan, PRPS, Fullcount, Hells Bells, Strike Gold, Super Dry Japan, Thorogood Boots, Red Wings, Kawatako, Will Leather Goods, Freitag, Iron Heart, Imperial Clothing, Naked & Famous, Big John, Insight, Deus Ex Machina, Somet, Real Mccoy’s, Nigel Cabourn.

Every single brand mentioned above can be found in all 8 stores despite the close proximity between 3 of them. But having them so close together is quite helpful, especially when a particular size runs out. On top of all the brands mentioned, Pronto Denim does some amazing collaborations with just about every brand they carry. The collaborations are between small to medium runs and they sell out fast!

Without further ado, here’s a tour of just 3 stores. Starting with their newest store in Siam Paragon #01-27. If you’re new to Bangkok, Siam Paragon is right next to Siam BTS station. Real convenient. Siam Paragon is the most prestigious mall in the entire Bangkok, to highlight just how luxurious a mall it is, it actually houses several exotic car showrooms on the 3rd floor. We’re talking Lamborghini, Maserati, Porsche, etc.

Have uber cool staff like Net here, sort you out with the toughest denim your legs can manage.

Next stop, just across from Siam Paragon on Soi 2 street, Pronto Denim’s 2nd store is located at Siam Square. Siam Square is pretty much a shopping district with stores sprawling down several streets. You’ll find Pronto Denim on Soi 2 street on the ground floor. It is a large 2 storey shop house which shares much of the same aesthetic as the Paragon store.

Some really sick Joe Mccoy’s well worn in.

Next stop, we take 4 train stops down from Siam to Asok BTS station. Pronto’s 3rd store is in a mall called Terminal 21. This mall is quite unusual, I say that in the best way possible. It has an airport terminal theme that carries through the entire building. From metal detectors at the entrance, security guards dressed as flight captains, departure gates on every escalator, also there are themed levels. Each level is themed to a different country’s major city. We have Tokyo, San Francisco, Istanbul, etc. Once again, Pronto Denim can be found on the 1st level.

Loving this vintage petrol station sign.

Well that’s all for now. Hope you enjoyed the tour of Pronto Denim.
